The military presence in Roraima: a legacy of the Army of Caxias, 20th - 21st centuries

ABSTRACT


This study details the military presence in Roraima from the 20th century to the present day, commencing with the influence of the Duke of Caxias, the patron of the Brazilian Army. It highlights the establishment and evolution of military structures in this region, such as the 6th Construction Engineering Battalion (6th BEC), the 1st Jungle Infantry Brigade of Roraima, the Roraima Border Command, the 7th Jungle Infantry Battalion (7th BIS), the 2nd Special Border Battalion (2nd BEF), and the Amazon Military Command (CMA), along with the creation of Special Border Platoons. It underscores the significance of the Army in defending National Sovereignty and the territorial integrity of Northern Amazonia.
